Great Bloggers Bake Off 2014...

image

Bake Off season is here again, which means the return of the Great Bloggers Bake Off! What a fantastic excuse to try baking one of the recipes from the programme.

I will be dipping in and out depending on other commitments, but I thought I'd start by taking part in week 1 and so I baked Mary Berry's Cherry Cake.

Though I desperately wanted to go out and buy a Bundt tin just so I could make a perfect replica of the ring shaped cake on the show, I resisted, knowing full well that I probably use it once or twice and then leave it to collect dust, though Amazon did report they'd had a surge in sales! The good news is it still baked right through to the middle and didn't suffer for being incorrectly shaped.

The recipe is here on the BBC Website and I must say despite all the furrowed brows and stressing over even distribution of cherries during the technical challenge, I did find it very easy it is to make... and that is even after I forgot to coat my cherries in flour too!

  5. i like that it is a square cake and not a bundt, makes it differnt to Mary's. the rise is great and i can see so many cherries too. I bet it tasted lovely! thank you for joining in and i look forward to seeing you again soon x x

  6. Looks delicious! I got my bundt pan from Morrisons - it's silicone but works just as well as any of the stainless steel ones - and was only a fiver!

    1. If only we had a Morrisons nearby, because for £5 I could definitely splash out for a nicer shaped cake - bet they are doing a roaring trade!

  7. Wow this looks great, so glad it worked without the ring dish- I'm always guilty of buying cake tins and only using them once!! Thanks for linking up #GBBOLinkUp xx

  8. Shame you don't live closer, Clare, you could have borrowed one of my collection. I love Bundt tins! Your cherry cake looks lush!

I didn't realise that people were baking along with GBBO! I'm going to drag Lucas into the kitchen tomorrow and make a swiss roll. Any old excuse for cake...

    1. I think the link closes on a Monday night, so you'd be better off waiting a day and baking whatever they do tomorrow night! :-)
