You hear it said a lot, that the west coast of Scotland is "stunning" and you don't think much more of it, but after spending this week rambling over hills, driving round lochs and hopping across islands, I have to tell you it is all of that and more!
If it had been created as part of a virtual world you'd think it too indulgent. Round every corner there is a loch, or a ruined castle or a view that takes your breath away. Of course it is not perfect, we got VERY lucky with the weather this week and we mostly avoided the midges too. Some people come on holiday to Scotland and just get bitten and rained on - we did not.

ReplyDeleteHello, I just found you through Sian's blog 'Life on a small island'. Your photography is really stunning, even allowing for the general stunning-ness (?!) of west highland scenery. (I can't believe you managed to catch the Jacobite right in the middle of Glenfinnan Viaduct! We stood under the viaduct in the rain and midges and waited in vain!) May I ask what camera you use? I am in need of an upgrade - though I know that the right equipment is only the start.

Hello Dancing Beastie! Apologies for the lack of direct reply, I tried to find your email on your blog, but couldn't. I shoot with a Nikon D90 which I love, but I have a LOT to learn! :-) I have actually this week discovered a great little compact ebook about SLR photography which I'll do a post about in a few days... And with the Glenfinnan viaduct it was all planned! I checked the timetable before we did the trip! ;-)

ReplyDeleteYour lovely photos have given me itchy feet and an urge to check the travel money stash (alas, I know it's diminished:( Each time we have travelled to the UK, we visit the west of Scotland, but can usually only manage brief forays. Next trip we plan to do the reverse - visit Scotland with a brief foray into Cumbria to see family!
