Living Arrows : 42/52

ISO 400, 35mm, f/2.5, 1/3200

Forgive the scowl on Theo's face this week. We had all had a late night at our neighbour's before this was taken. He had stayed up a few hours past his bedtime playing with older kids (I had to laugh when a 9 year-old fell asleep on his shoulder watching a film) and we parents over-indulged on cheese and wine (we paid the price the next day)

There were more grumpy faces last week when we finally persuaded him to have a hair cut! It was every bit as traumatic as we had feared despite days of mental preparation, an appointment at our local children's salon (where they sit in cars and eat lollipops) and the promise of a trip to the sweet shop for good behaviour.

I don't know what it is, but he hates the whole experience! We have tried my sister cutting it, we have tried the salon cutting it, bribes, threats, promises, persuasion and explanations, but no progress. So tell me, when do they grow out of it?

  1. Dan still doesn't like it, but tolerates having his hair cut in a shop. My husband has been taking him while he gets his hair cut and he came with me while I had mine the other day. He ate a packed lunch sitting on their sofa and I was only having a wet cut, quick trim, so I wasn't in there for ages. Don't know if this has helped, but it's still a bit of a battle! The only thing I can think of that worked was when my mum took him and he's always very well behaved for her. I think they will just get used to it in time… I hope so anyway!

  3. I feel your pain with the haircut, Lucas is in fact sporting a dodgy hairstyle at the moment as I made do with just trimming his fringe rather than the trauma of the hairdressers but I will have to take him again soon. Theo does look very smart though, and I quite like his scowl!

  4. You capture such wonderful expressions of Theo for your Living Arrows posts, they will be lovely to look back on, to remember the stories behind them - the tears and scowls as well as the smiles!
My hairdresser often puts something on her iPad for Archie to watch, which usually works. Not quite as good as getting to sit in a car though! Elizabeth went to a girlie party there a while ago and loved it. xx

  5. I've no idea when the stop disliking hair cuts; when I took Kitty I ended up having her hair cut while she sat on my knee while I was also wearing Elma in the sling - it was crazy and might just explain why we've grown out her hair, hopefully her baby brother will like it a bit more!

  6. Little Man had his second ever hair cut today and he hated it too. LP, at 3, still refuses to have hers cut! x
