House remodel : Week 4

Today marks the one month point of our house remodel. At the moment we are running pretty much to schedule, if not actually a little ahead. Undoubtedly having the cover over the scaffolding has helped hugely, but it has been rubbish for photographs and has pretty much scuppered my original plans to time lapse record the whole build.

Still it will be pretty exciting when we eventually peel it all off and reveal what's underneath to the neighbours!

Over the last week the builders have been working on the southern half of the first floor. This half of contains our bedroom, en-suite and wardrobe.

After months staring at plans trying to visualise the space it has been incredible to watch it be built. Next to where I am standing in the photo above will be the stairs (you can see the top of the ladder we are currently using) and behind me will be external double doors and a juliet balcony facing south across the field. Our bathroom and wardrobe is to the right and our bed will be to the left. There's an odd optical illusion going on in the top photo because the beam to the left is several inches higher than me, but appears to be the same height, it's not.

View from the house - March 2014

This is what the field next to us looks like at the moment. Yet another reason why that scaffolding wrap is driving me crazy - I am dying to see what the view will be like from the first floor, but I can't!

This week the builders will be working on the north half of the house which is bigger as it has gable ends at front and back. It will mean a big change to the old shape of the bungalow and will finally allow us to get a glimpse of the whole house.
