Obviously I must have been blogging a lot about food recently, because I have been tagged by Magnolia Veranda in her food bloggers post!
What or who inspired you to start a blog?
It's so long ago (6 years!) that I honestly can't remember! I was sent to the Falkland Islands with my job with British Forces Broadcasting and I'd sort of heard of these things called blogs and thought it would be an interesting way to keep in touch with friends and family. Now I can't ever imagine not doing it!
Who is your foodie inspiration?
My mother! My husband still tells people in absolute awe all about how "Clare's mother cooks absolutely everything from scratch..." and I can still count the amount of takeaways I've had on one hand. I guess I was just born into a family that loves food and believes in preparing excellent stuff to eat.
Your greatest, batter-splattered food/drink book is?
Richard
Bertinet's "Dough". With apologies to regular readers who hear me
banging on about bread quite often, I use a recipe from Richard's book
at least 3 times a week. My whole family are prolific breadmakers. It's
not just that it's cheaper and contains less rubbish (don't start me on
the Chorleywood baking process) but it also tastes far better than anything I've ever been able to buy.
Tell us all about the best thing you have ever eaten in another country, where was it, what was it?
Too many! My family had a holiday home in Spain for most of my life so I grew up eating Paella and I still cannot resist the sticky loveliness of paella rice. But more recently I've had grilled octopus on Curium Beach in Cyprus (see below,) Toothfish cheeks in the Falkland Islands and an amazing breakfast at the Red Tree Lodge in Fernie, British Columbia.
Another food blogger's table you'd like to eat at is?
There are so many great bloggers out there, both foodie and non-foodie, I'd find it hard to pick, but there are two or three in the States who would be very high up on my list. Not really anything to do with the food, just that I'd love to see inside their houses!
What is the one kitchen gadget you would ask Santa for this year (money no object of course)?
I'm pretty much sorted for kitchen gadgets, but I do know the husband would love a really expensive coffee machine!
Who taught you to cook?
My mum! She is still teaching me now and I'm 35!
I'm coming to you for dinner, what's your signature dish?
Bread is going to figure quite highly and if we just want a relaxed hassle free evening, I'll probably do lasagne, have it all pre-prepared and chuck it in the oven when you arrive.
What is your guilty food pleasure?
A Mars bar straight from the fridge and cut into pieces, A&W burgers, New York fries and Tim Horton's Boston Cream. I blame two years living in Canada for the last three!
Reveal something about yourself that others would be surprised to learn.
Food related? I've never eaten a kebab (the kind that come from shops) and I was vegetarian for most of my teens!
So now my instructions are to tag five other food bloggers with these
questions, who in turn must tag five other food bloggers. Unfortunately I could only think of three, but here they are!
The View From Great Island
Make Do & Eat
Salt & Chocolate
I did this in December even though, like you, I don't strictly consider myself a food blogger (just a greedy Scot!). I love reading the answers because everyone is so different in their inspiration and background. Thanks for introducing me to three more lovey blogs ;0)
ReplyDeleteWow I am just salivating looking at those pictures, interesting reading, will have to look up the "dough" book you referred to. Tried making some pain au chocolate from one of my kids cook books, disaster, I nearly threw it at the wall it was rock hard! Fi
ReplyDeleteThe photos have my mouth watering! Your bread sounds wonderful. My wife and I need to begin making bread...never have. -Jeff
ReplyDeleteYour food photography is amazing. Love it! Thanks so much for tagging me. I will try to play along! Fun questions.
ReplyDeleteWell done, so glad you found the time and effort to do this. I am a bit of a bread fiend myself must get myself that book "Dough" by Richard Bertinet. Thank you for introducing me to a couple of other blogs I may not have found on my own.
ReplyDeleteDelicious looking tables. I would love to try some of these meals. If you share a recipe, I will try to prepare something myself.
