WIP Wednesday

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

After seeing so many inspiring quilting bloggers taking part in Work In Progress Wednesday, I have decided to jump in and get involved. If nothing else it should keep me on the straight and narrow with blogging and quilting when the baby arrives.

I have two quilts in progress this week (I'm making up for lost time earlier this year!) the first is a baby quilt for our neighbour. She's due in about 10 days and I wanted to get the top of the quilt ready as we have a few visitors over the next fortnight who are bound to distract from sewing.

The plan is to applique the baby's name on the quilt top once he or she is born and then finish up the quilting and binding over a couple of days. The fabric in this is ALL from my stash. Having been struck by inspiration, I laid out the pattern late one night and was delighted when I realised I could do a balanced design that used up all the colours. Only after I had sewn it all and stepped back, did I actually count the colours and realise there are 4 of each pattern, so I could have done something much simpler! The perils on quilting late at night!

The second quilt is an applique drunken path drunkard's pathway (thanks Lindsay!) design, made from the leftovers of my It's A Hoot charm packs. I'm mainly making this because I wanted to try out the design and experiment with a grey background. It'll probably end up as yet another (crib size) baby quilt for us, but you can't have too many right?

  13. I think your first quilt will be super. I used your snowball quilt from a couple of years ago as inspiration. I had been collecting flowers (preferably bright coloured) on black backgrounds. I had no project in mind for these materials. Until I saw your quilt and that was it. They cried out to be sewn up in this design. I wanted one which would show off the materials.
I made a tablecloth of about 110cm square and placed diamond ways on a round oak table it looks stunning.
Hope all goes well in the next few weeks. Enjoy your time quilting in the calm before the storm!
