The Eternal Maker

Echino

Ever since we left Canada last summer I have been fantasising about finding a local North American style fabric store. It's a pretty hopeless quest in Cyprus, but I figured something in the UK would be a good second best, so I could pop in when I was back.

The Eternal Maker, Chichester

I never in a million years thought I'd actually find somewhere and was stunned, and cautiously optomistic when an online search for Japanese fabric produced a result for The Eternal Maker in Chichester, just 15 minutes from my parents home.

I had to wait till today to have a chance to visit it and I am delighted with what I found! The shelf of Echino fabric I saw when I stepped inside the door would have been enough on its own, but the store was filled to the rafters with American and Japanese imports. After months spent online, wistfully browsing the ranges, seeing the fabric by the metre in the flesh was incredible.

In the end I bought a stack of Echino half metres to make the sample quilt for the class I'm teaching next month and I'll make a return trip next week to stock up before I go back to Cyprus. I may have spent a long time looking for my special fabric store, but it was most definitely worth the wait!

  2. Great shop, much better to be there than shop online and because you live so far away a brilliant excuse to buy lots.

  3. Clare, where is this shop - it looks like my idea of heaven. Do they stock Amy Butler? I've atrted making a few of her footstalls and used the fabric to jazz up a bedspread I made for my parents.
